Payment giant Mastercard has signaled that it will step into the Metaverse and NFT industries by filing 15 patent applications related to NFT and Metaverse to the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Payment giant Mastercard has signaled that it will step into these industries by filing 15 patent applications related to NFT and Metaverse to the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

According to Mastercard's application to the USPTO, the payment giant plans to provide virtual payment services to users in the metaverse universe, creating an online marketplace. For example, according to the patent application code #97346112 filed by Mastercard, Mastercard wants to establish a "virtual marketplace that brings together buyers and sellers, validated by digital products and non-fungible token (NFT) technology".

Mastercard's Work in the Cryptocurrency Industry

Founded in the USA in 1966, Mastercard's patent applications are not his first work in the cryptocurrency industry. Mastercard, which added 500 people to accelerate its work in the crypto money industry last month, continues to work to catch up with its competitors in the industry. In the early days of 2022, the payments giant collaborated with the giant US cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase to facilitate the purchase of NFTs. In addition, it announced in October last year that it was collaborating with the digital asset platform Bakkt.
